Home made french style icecream

There is a saying ”When there is a will, there is a way.” Well, I am a true believer of that and I always try things from scratch to see how it actually happens. Recently I had been wondering about making home made icecream. Since I do not have an icecream maker, I started looking out for ways to make an easy to do, home made icecream recipe that is possible without the use of icecream makers. So I found out a few recipes and combined them to create my own recipe.  The best thing about making your icecream is that you can add anything you like. However, it takes a little bit of patience to get to the end. I hope you will enjoy making your own icecream.
Utensils:
  • 2 large stainless steel /hard plastic bowl. (you can basically take any two bowls you want
  • 1 fine mesh
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 regular whisker/beater.
  • 1 electric beater.
  • 1 storage box (should be able to contain at least 500 ml).
Ingredients:
  • 4 large egg yolks.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar.
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence.
  • 1 cup milk.
  • 1 cup heavy cream.
  • 1 tbsp instant coffee.
Instructions:
1. Put egg yolks in the bowl and stir well

2. Pour Sugar  and beat well with a whisk until light and fluffy

3. Add milk  and vanilla essence to the mixture

4. Pour the mixture in a saucepan and cook for about 10-15 minutes until the custard thickens

5. Sieve the custard through a fine stainless mesh

6. Let the mixture cool for 20 minutes in an ice water bowl, then pour in the cream and whisk for 3/4 minutes or until thickens. (Keep the mixing bowl over ice-water bowl during the process as high outside temperature might affect the texture of the icecream)

7. Add coffee and beat well to mix the coffee.

8. Pour the mixture in the storage box or bowl, close the lid and keep it in the fridger for at least an hour. After an hour, take the bowl out of the fridger and beat well. Continue this every twenty minutes, until the icecream reaches a scoop-able consistency. Add anything else like chocolate chips, cookie bites or cake bites ( I used a handful of chocolate chips and a red velvet cupcake in mine). You need to put the icecream into the fridge after mixing any additional ingredient as that would make the mixture a little runny.

9. Serve your icecream using an icecream scooper.
